Secret Concerts | Sofar Sounds DC

Can I let you guys in on a little secret? Yes? Ok, so I stumbled across a cool way to explore my city (DC) and listen to cool music, but there is a catch… YOU DON’T KNOW WHO PERFORMING or WHERE IT IS… weird right? Lol, well I definitely thought it was an Ed Sheernan and Ledisi concert I paid for – 2 tickets at that-just for me to fix my specs proper and see that was a charity concert for a completely different date… Welp.

So I told my friend ‘girl, we are not seeing anyone’ s Ledisi or Sheernan gurl’, and should cancel plans (I already sent my request for a refund to their no refund policy lol). To my surprise she was against canceling and still wanted to go (bless her heart because I didn’t want to go to this weirdness alone lol). Responded to support and let them know ‘Imma give y’all a shot’ and kept my lil pennies for the secret concert, and Y’ALL, LET ME TELL IT!!!

Got the email of the address (still no clue of the artist) the day before and we’re all set and confirmed on the guest list (they fancy y’all). Was super early so I got to check out some areas of Petworth that I have NEVER seen (like ever lol). Tried some Czech food (will withhold the name because they were nice) and some bomb food at Midlands… I recommend Midlands… The Chef there is an arse hole, but he is good for it… Dont take any offense lol. Now on to the show..

The show was AMAZING.

The location was amazing as well (Sofar Sounds takes pride in more intimate settings… And guess what?! BYOB (Bring your own beer *drinks*). So not ọnly did I get to hear some awesome music, in an awesome location, meet awesome people, and do this all locally- I may just try a sofar in any city that I travel to.

So if you are looking to do something different in your city and music enthusiasts like myself… Check out http://www.sofarsounds.com! You will not regret it (then you can tell other folks of something cool you did… See?!) check out a few of the pics (lol can’t load videos yet… This site still free homies).

So yea, my random self will probably post who knows when, but if you want some more serious gist and posts you need to check out ivery arie where I am a contributing writer- get your knowledge up!!!

Ciao y’all

Double Career|Wearing Two Hats

I keep seeing this question floating around, so I got a little inspired: Can a woman be a Family & Career woman? Many of times both men and women believe it is not possible without one or the other suffering, and for others it is seamless [ or fake it to be seamless lol]. Why should this be? Of course Parenthood in general can be pretty difficult, but is being a woman with kids any more difficult? Should she not have help? And being that my Nigerian behind has to think this through, would my career have to take a back seat to me being a baby making machine [gives a major side], I HAVE QUESTIONS and I NEED ANSWERS!!

I need to gauge how hard this may or may not be. I mean, motherhood is hard and all, I really do not want to give up my career, but I do live in this United States of ‘Murica and their maternity policies and child care are straight up basura. Furthermore, families usually have to be two income in order to make it [I have a brunch problem, forget shopping] comfortably, so my behind has to really work anyway! WHO WILL WATCH THESE CHIRREN! AGAIN:

So what do you think? Can family and career co-exist, or would one need to take a back seat? Take a poll, it is anonymous… I promise!

Forum is up for discussion, because I do want a male perspective as well. You know how it goes.

Week Recap

Hey Guys!  Sorry I’ve not been keeping to a schedule, so you would have to accept that it is just who I am. It has been eventful,  so let’s get to it shall we?

Last week was the Se7vn Streeter concert, and it was AMAZING. I mean,  they did sound check Hella late and she came out late,  but when she did perform…  Did she not sing to my soul?  YAS!!!  She surely did. And guess what?!   Tix were only $20 for the Baltimore show AND they gave an instant rebate if you parked at the Soundstage parking garage…. STEAL! Good show and a great atmosphere, especially for me to come all the way to bmore.

Now for the weekend. I do not know how I get talked into some things, but I found myself in Philadelphia going to a defunct and haunted penitentiary. It is the last weekend that they do this and it is called “the remix” and when in tell you they scared the life out of me… AND my friends… You would think I was lying.

From falling, getting lost, going through a graveyard garden and me screaming at the top of my lungs, I do not even believe I have ever been so afraid in my life. I can admit, I am a scary cat, but I still made it through… Barely. There is a little museum part at the end (Al Capone served time here), and a food court… But them monsters STILL eff with you there. Overall, Philly is quaint and, beautiful, and fun. If you feel brave and want to try something different, pay a visit to Eastern penitentiary (with its ol spooky self). Check out the pics.
