The constant struggle

image

There is so much going in the world that it is overwhelming, like…  My prayer list is super long. It may be because we have more access to global events,  but it is some good and a lot of BAD! From the sheer racism that are happening on college campuses, the ongoing killings of POC by some law enforcement, to the most atrocious slaughters that have happened just within this week alone. I just wish the teachings of love and community were more permissible and accepted as opposed to worthless material gains and ridiculous aspirations to “fame”.

When was the last time you really enjoyed your family and friends,  without looking at your phone, without trying to keep up with the Jones’ of soc. Media? I mean when was the last time you even thanked the Higher Power for what he has done for you and your loved ones?  I mean,  I can’t even do the “#prayfor[inserttheatrocityhere]” because it does not feel right to me. I stay prayed up no matter what. So pray to whomever or whatever suits all conditions,  and do it wholeheartedly because the whole world needs it. Remember:

Prayer should be your first response,  not your last resort.

Allow that to marinate. Have a great weekend to all.

Dating in 2015

image

Ahem,  so I am about to put myself out there once again. I can say with confidence that I am moderately traditional… Not archaic… Moderately traditional. Like,  I thought I was going to have my life in order,  married, and pregnant by 25 like mi made – but LOOK AT ME NOW! I am all Master’s degreed up,  job,  the whole nine…  With none of the fixings like my mom had lol. But guess what??!!  These degrees don’t keep you warm,  so I decided to give online dating a try.

Now,  do not get me wrong…  Do as you wish…  Heck…  I’m even pushing you to try. But me trying I realized that online dating is Soooooooo not for me lol. I tried MELD,  for like a month. Meld is supposed for black professionals (A-ha like myself *rihanna tongue stick out face*) and uses your LinkedIn and Facebook for validation. NOW, it is a great app, just not a great app for me. Then I realized…  I do not have the energy to go on all these dates and spread my attention to multiple people at the same.

So out of being drained from the different dates (one will actually be a great friend,  since he is a great person), I deleted the app. I’m just going to stick to the old school meeting people by coincidence and chance lol. It is 2015 so I tried oh! Heck, Maybe you should too!

Week Recap

image

Hey Guys!  Sorry I’ve not been keeping to a schedule, so you would have to accept that it is just who I am. It has been eventful,  so let’s get to it shall we?

Last week was the Se7vn Streeter concert, and it was AMAZING. I mean,  they did sound check Hella late and she came out late,  but when she did perform…  Did she not sing to my soul?  YAS!!!  She surely did. And guess what?!   Tix were only $20 for the Baltimore show AND they gave an instant rebate if you parked at the Soundstage parking garage…. STEAL! Good show and a great atmosphere, especially for me to come all the way to bmore.

Now for the weekend. I do not know how I get talked into some things, but I found myself in Philadelphia going to a defunct and haunted penitentiary. It is the last weekend that they do this and it is called “the remix” and when in tell you they scared the life out of me… AND my friends… You would think I was lying.

From falling, getting lost, going through a graveyard garden and me screaming at the top of my lungs, I do not even believe I have ever been so afraid in my life. I can admit, I am a scary cat, but I still made it through… Barely. There is a little museum part at the end (Al Capone served time here), and a food court… But them monsters STILL eff with you there. Overall, Philly is quaint and, beautiful, and fun. If you feel brave and want to try something different, pay a visit to Eastern penitentiary (with its ol spooky self). Check out the pics.

Whatever Wednesday

Yes, I know I am a day late, BUT I have a legitimate excuse… ok I don’t other than I went to a concert on Wednesday and I was BEAT (concert update on Friday though). So I have a couple of things that my subscribers (and friends), want to discuss. The first topic on her mind is:

Why are men of this era soooooooo different than men of our father’s era in relation to how they view/approach relationships and marriage; let’s not leave out their views of hard-work and being providers as well

Is this a question that has been on your mind as well (as a woman)? What are the mens’ perspective on this matter as well? This open discussion but I do not want anyone to be disrespectful on here… nice… clean… healthy discussions only (maybe we can get some understanding here lol).

Second topic was a discussion that I and a colleague (subby as well… woot!) had a discussion about over bbm (yes I still use it… JUDGE ME) and we decided to bring it here it was in regards to this meme here:

africanmen

Now he had his fair share of words sha, but you know… I have my fair share of words too (I thought I was hilarious!!). But do you believe this holds some truth? Are women usually not held accountable for their own actions as well? Or is this just some vicious cycle and bad timing where a lot of people get hurt?

Last question. If an ex invited you to their wedding, would you attend?
I will surely involve myself in this discussion because I have soooooooo much to gist about on these matters lol. So let us take it to the stree.. I mean to this blog and discuss.

Canadiaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

So, most people that know me know that I have been traveling FOREVER, like I grew up with stamps in my passport. However,  this is the first time that I am actually documenting and sharing my travels with the world (yaasssss lol). So the first country I want to bring the spotlight is *drumroll* Canada!!!! Now this is not my first time in the country,  but I totally fell in love the second time around.

I was in Toronto and took a train across to Montreal on VIA Canada rail. Apart from snoozing on more than half of the ride, I got to see Lake Ontario and a whole lot of corn lol (side note- the Great Lakes are not called great for nothing, they are huge!).

Now Montreal is where I fell in love!!! I stayed in Spring Hill Marriott Suites in Old Montreal and could not ask for a more perfect location. Was close to the Notre Dame Basilica, the waterfront, the Olympic Stadium, and the Botanic gardens just to name a few. I don’t know if it is the Urban Planner in me, but every city I visit, I have to explore and learn the history and that is exactly what I did with no regrets.

Nightlife. Now I usually don’t do clubs, but since I was in a completely different county, I decided to hit the Montreal night life the moment I got there, and I was… Interesting. I tried the Toronto nightlife the last time I was there and it was a flop every night… Montreal was again… Interesting lol. Now my travel partner and I do not speak French and really had to ask around for where to go. Thank goodness a “brother ” pointed us in another direction because we were clearly in the wrong area lol. Apartment 200 is where we ended up for a short time where we almost died trying jagermeisters (spelling?) and arcade basketball, then it just got weird so we left lol. Pinq Taco was our last place where we got plastered, listened to great music and had plenty of champagne (my type of venue), Pinq taco for the win!!!!

image

Sadly we ended up doing so much shopping, museums, and sight seeing, that we did not give Montreal or Toronto night life a try again. One thing I can say, I had enough poutine to last me a whole year! These two cities are a blast and definitely a must visit!

weekend recap

Weekend Recap

I did not realize that keeping up with a blog takes so much energy. Even now, the daily schedule that I have to keep everyone slightly entertained,  has been doused by gasoline and lit on fire (Lo siento).  So this is me playing catch up and providing a weekend recap of Halloween and Sunday Brunch (bringing the tea 🍵).

image

Yes,  so I did my face up for work-a-ween and got all sorts of compliments. However, this year was a total dud at work. Only I and another co-worker got dressed and we felt a bit slighted (you know like from the legally blonde scene when she wore a costume to a non costume party?! Yes.. Like that) and were a lil salty,  but whatevs. What really got me was while at party city doing the most last minute costume shopping for my lil cousins,  a man said “that ain’t a costume,  that is her tribal markings!”  BREH!!??  Tribal markings?!  But I’m saved so I pick my battles and let that one slide.  But really…  Does it look like tribal marks?!

Halloween comes along and post work I was reminded 1 million times of the promise I made to the 9,6, and 3 year old that I would take them Trick Or Treat ing… And this I did…  With my own satin pillow case for my own darn candy (a girl needs her sweets). You would think after a good hour of collecting candy and watching endless Nick shows, that they would be tired- NOT!!!!  I had to do the whip n nae nae in my onsie, until they could take no more.. Peep exhibit A
image

Yes,  I own a onsie….  SO WHAT!

Fast forward to my second most favourite thing to do *fixes halo* BRUNCH!  Now,  I don’t know about any other cities that LOVE brunch like The District, but brunch is my ish!  And if you really want me to love you,  it should be bottomless,  yes,  bottomless. So I took my to my fave place in Georgetown El Centro DF,  where you can have bottomless brunch for only $35!!!!! All you can eat food and drinks and the menu is a Phenom!!! I will surely come up with a top 10 brunch list for DC and MD,  but until then,  check out a few flicks!
